We do, however, reserve the right to refuse service if we believe your pet is overly stressed, aggressive or infested with bugs. We do not want to cause any harm to a dog or ourselves during the grooms.

MATTED DOGS

It is the responsibility of the owner to maintain their dog’s coat throughout its lifetime, and thus we provide a professional full-time service to accommodate this for you. Grooming dogs is not straightforward and requires a high level of skills, knowledge and understanding of grooming equipment/tools, bathing products, dog skin/coat and dog psychology/behaviour.

Matting on a dog’s coat is generally a sign of poor skin health. Grooming is essential to maintain dog skin health and in turn prevent heavy matting. We can successfully maintain healthy skin and a matt free coat for all breeds groomed every 4 to 6 weeks period. In the case that your dog is matted and needs to be shaved shorter than required, we do not take liability for any cuts, razor burns, irritated skin or any other issues that occur as a result of matted hair. De-matting the coat takes extra time and shaving matts out damages equipment and therefore an additional fee will incur.

Not all matting is superficial and at times isn’t observed by the grooming until the preparation of the coat in the grooming process begin. This means the price of the groom will be determined after the grooming has been complete.

If you wish you to take complete care of your pet, the dog grooming industry has evolved for you to do so.

SENIOR DOGS/SPECIAL NEEDS

Dogs of old age have an increased risk of health and medical issues. We take these circumstances and any health issues you have informed us about into consideration and will approach the dog accordingly based on its behaviour and reaction to the groomers process.

When the dog displays health issues we adjust our approach to the groom. In particular if the dog no longer enjoys brushing or can no longer handle the hair dryer (dryer seizures my occur), this may result in the grooming to be of lower quality. At this stage of the dogs life, it is more important that the dogs skin and coat remain healthy as the superficial result no longer places importance over the wellbeing of the dog.

SEDATED DOGS

Grooming or handling a sedated dog can be dangerous. We ask that if your pet has been mildly sedated or given medication, you inform us before the service begins. We will not groom dogs that require heavy sedation.

AGGRESSIVE DOGS

The Dog Barber reserves the right to refuse service for the safety of our groomers should your dog be aggressive. If your dog is nervous or anxious, please advise us prior to the appointment so we can take the required actions in order to change our approach to them. If your dog has snapped at a groomer in the past, you are required to inform us prior to grooming so that we are prepared to avoid any incidents. A soft muzzle may be used for the wellbeing of your pet and the groomer.

UNGROOMABLE DOGS

Should a dog be deemed aggressive, too anxious or any other behavioural/health issues, the owner will be charged to cover the time spent on the dog.

DOG BITES

In the event that a groomer is bitten by a dog, the owner will be liable for the cost of the groom and any medical fees and may also be held liable for loss of income.

FLEA/TICK

We ensure that we do everything in order to keep a sanitary and bug-free environment for your dog to be groomed in. If your dog has fleas there a $100.00 fee charged for flea removal and salon clean to prevent contamination to others. Our flea treatment only temporarily relieves the dogs of fleas and does not cure the fleas. You will be asked to take your dog to your chosen vet immediately after your grooming

OWNERS IN THE SALON

We do not permit owners to stay with their dog while it is being groomed unless we believe it is in the best interest of the dog, then we will ask you to stay.

ACCIDENTS

We aim to ensure that we have the safest environment for your pet. We do however use very sharp tools and in particular anxious dogs and puppies can often be wiggly during the grooming process. We take extreme precaution, but unfortunately, some situations are out of our control. In the event of an accident during the grooming process, we may advise you to seek veterinary treatment which may be at the expense of the owner.

EAR PULLING/NAIL TRIMMING

Removing excessive ear hair may result in anything from rawness to split ears caused by head-shaking due to ear infections. If there is an excessive amount of hair in the ear canal and the dog has not been treated for it prior to us seeing it, we will inform you before we proceed to treat it. We will do what is in the best interest of your pet without causing discomfort. We cannot predict how an animal will react to grooming, so I advise keeping a close eye on your pet for any unusual behaviour. In the event your pet is uncooperative for nail cutting, a grinder can be used as an alternative. Nail grinding does take more time. In certain instances, if this proves to be too stressful the pet will be returned to the owner without the nails being cut.

DOUBLE COATED BREEDS

Shaving a double-coated breed (Husky, German Shephard, Golden Retriever, etc.) affect their bodies natural cooling system. Unless in circumstances of severe matting or medical necessity, we strongly advise against doing so. Shaving a double-coated breed can cause alopecia, hair loss and increased risk of heatstroke.

APPOINTMENT TIMES

All appointment times are estimated time frames. They are subject to change due to delays, cancellations, dog’s behaviour or any other unforeseen circumstances. We do our best to accommodate time constraints but cannot guarantee an exact time. We tend to hold dogs for an average of 2-3 hours until the completion of a groom and can provide up to 30mins notice before completion. We do however ask that owners do not return to collect their dog unless notified when they are ready.

STANDING APPOINTMENTS

All clients will be asked to choose from a 4 or 6 weekly maintenance grooming schedule. This is something that will be discussed when your pet is dropped off/picked up. In the circumstances where a fixed appointment needs to be rescheduled or cancelled, we require your dog to be back on schedule for the following appointment. With that said, we will not be able to adjust all future appointments since they are booked in advance and all our customers are on a rotating schedule. Missing two consecutive appointments will result in being taken off the rotation.

PICTURES/VIDEOS

We strive for perfection and each dog makes practice. We often take photos/video of the results achieved by our groomers. Any content taken of your pet during the appointment may be used for grooming evidence or uploaded to our social media profiles.

WOUNDS

Any dog with open wounds will not be groomed for the safety of your pet and to minimize the risk of infection.

VACCINATIONS

We require all dog to be up to date with their vaccines and immunizations on their shots. We ask that you bring proof of their veterinary record.

EMERGENCIES

In the event of an emergency, The Dog Barber Is allowed to provide necessary medical attention to your dog in your absence. Should we not be capable of medically addressing your dog, we will transport your dog to our local veterinary clinic. We will provide notice to the owner and will remain at the vet to ensure we understand what has occurred as reported by the veterinarian. You understand all expenses that may be incurred are your responsibility unless stated that The Dog Barber will assume financial responsibility.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us should you have any questions regarding the terms and conditions.
